August class line-up and Sept Calendar

The Malls are filling with families getting ready for back to school but there is plenty going on at Sew Have Fun before then!
Aug 9 "Be Merry"  This 6 session Block of the Month comes together into a lovely 60x75" quilt or 2 Wall hangings and as you can guess the theme is festive...but not too festive, it is the kind of project that you can hang most of the winter;  we love that!  Pattern $25 (one time charge),  each kit is $25.
We really have Christmas on the mind because August 10 is our Christmas Club.  It is never too late to join this dynamic group and get a head start on your Christmas sewing!  This week's project is a lovely blue, white and silver wallhanging, 1-3pm.  Cost of kit is $19.99
For something a little more seasonal join us for the class "Butterfly in Flight"  If you are nervous of free motion you will learn some techniques to help you overcome your fears!  Class and kit is $40, August 13 1:30-4 or Saturday, Aug 17, 1:30-4.  Bring your walking foot, Free Motion Foot and 1/4" foot and a variety of threads.
It is always a challenge to get everyone up and back on schedule in the Fall but our cheerful placemats will help start the day off right!  Wednesday, August 14 1:30-3:30 Class and kit is $30 (Makes 4) If you have the Phillips 10 degree ruler you will love being able to use it for another project and use some of those decorative stitches on your machine to embellish your placemats!
If you have never tried 3D work give it a try on Friday, August 16 1:30-3:30 and make a leaf or flower shaped bowl.  If you enjoy thread painting or want to experiment this is the project for you!   Bring your free motion foot and a variety of threads.  $20
Our Scrap Club meets on Tuesday August 20, usually we meet in the morning but with sewing camp at that time we have moved to the afternoon (1pm).  Use up your stash and make something beautiful!
Another stash buster is the Mondo Bag!  This fun class uses 208 2.5" squares and makes up into a large tote.  1pm, Aug 21  $20 (you bring the squares, some homework done ahead of class will help you finish in the time frame)
Come for Tea on August 23 at 2pm  Goodies and great ideas and a fun visit with sewing sisters and exciting news, too!  This afternoon will have you buzzing with excitement!
August 24  Closed for the Day  Come visit us at the Blackstock Fair, we are doing some hands on projects for kids and adults, fun rain or shine as we are in the Rec Centre!  See you there!
August 27, All Day FREE Sew Along!  If you didn't get everything on your Summer Sewing To Do list drop in for our casual Sew Along and get caught up!
Aug 30 is the catch-up class for the "Be Merry" Block of the month 1-3pm
With all these projects there is no reason not to have something for show and tell when Guild meetings start again!  Know a young person interested in sewing...we are beginning registration for the Fall Sessions of Sew Cool Sewing Classes!

Our monthly classes are continuing, you can see that there are Block of the Month clubs, Christmas clubs and plenty of kids clubs.  We'd love to start a Scrappers Club where we focus on creating new and exciting pieces just by using leftovers and scraps; come in and put your name on the wait list...we might also be looking for a convener for this club...lets talk!  We've been working on our skills and had an informative class on Free Motion recently, a wait list is forming for the next session.  Our next skill to work on is thread painting on April 6 from 1-4pm.  Practice makes perfect but some techniques will certainly speed up the process so sign up soon.  We had a lot of fun with surface design in the Bobbinwork class and we are moving on to a couching class on April 23.  This will be right after our retreat at Elim lodge(April 19-21); there are 2 spots left so act fast if you've been sitting on the fence!  We'll be setting up our booth at the Creativ Festival at the International Centre April 26 and 27, drop into the store to get a code for ordering your discount tickets online.  Drop in soon, there is always something happening at Sew Have Fun and you guessed it, it is always fun!

Sew Have Fun Retreat April 19-21

What needs to be said about a retreat; it’s a chance to get away from home and work pressures, spend time with some awesome sewing sisters, and just sew, sew, sew!  Catch up on quilting projects, start some new ones, be inspired in the countryside, and of course we’ll have all kinds of surprises in store for you!  We are planning a budget friendly get-away that promises good food, good friends, and much laughter!
We have booked Hawthorne House which has 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.  Each bedroom has 2 twin beds so maximum of 2 people per room.  We've also booked the rec room so will have lots of room for projects and sewing.  Meals are in the Dining room and include Friday dinner, 3 meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.  Book before February 28 and you will receive a lovely swag bag!

2013 We're ready!!

You can telephone...tell a friend...or tell a woman!!
Obviously word about our store has been spreading and we appreciate each and every person who shared our store information this year.  As a result our sewing community is growing and there is nothing more exciting than sharing the love of sewing and encouraging all of you in your sewing journey.
2013 Promises to hold even more growth and sewing knowledge as we launch a new Block of the Month, we’re going back in time to 2002 Times and Seasons by Piecemakers.  Interestingly the dates on this calendar match the 2013, a bit of serendipity there!  We are offering multiple ways to work the appliqué, and knock down your stash for the crazy patch work.
Seams Like a Journey is a fabulous project for learning multiple techniques and finishes in a cohesive and attractive quilt; you will have such a sense of accomplishment and will have confidence to move on to more challenging projects.
As we near completion on the Stonehenge Block of the Month some new projects are stacking up, and many new classes with talented teachers.

Thanks again to all of you for making this past year a success!
